The Color of luxury is Vivid Blue. Definitely.
In fact Vivid Blue is the color of the Oppenheimer Blue, a 14.62-carat diamond that has been sold at auction in May this year by Christie’s in Geneva.
It is actually the world’s most expensive gemstone ever sold at auction, beating the previous record held by the Blue Moon diamond, by selling for $58.0 million.
It was once the property of the most influential and powerful diamond families the world has ever known, the Oppenheimers. In particular it was owned by Philip Oppenheimer, the late chairman of the De Beers diamond-marketing cartel.
In the diamond world, blue is one of the rarest and most sought-after colors. Less than 2 percent of diamonds discovered in the world are blue and only 10 percent of all blue diamonds discovered are larger than a carat.
Oppenheimer Blue color, size and intrinsic perfection – no additional faceting have been added to enhance its clarity – are the reasons why it is so special.
As Christie’s head of jewelry – Rahul Kadakia – said “This is the ‘Mona Lisa’ of blue stones”
